The market of small and medium-sized TFT LCD panel (4.5-6 inches) is changing a lot. According to the data from market research firm Display Search, because of Apple's orders, LG Display’s share of small and medium-size TFT LCD panel in Q2 of this year climbed to 12.7 percent, a significant jump from fifth position last year and it grabbed the second position from Innolux Taiwan. Although Samsung's share fell sharply, it remained at the top by 35.7%.

LG Display has obvious advantages in large-size panels, grabbing the top spot in large-size panels market for four years in a row, while it seems a little weaker in small size market. Its market share was 4.9% in Q2 last year with No.5 in the industry and there’s a significant gap compared with Samsung who took half of the small size market.

However, LG Display made a breakthrough in the small-medium size market this year. Some data shows that LG Display’s shipments of small-medium size panel reached 32.8 million in the second quarter which nearly doubled 18 million in the first quarter and overtook Innolux Taiwan which ranked second formerly. Reporters learned from LG Display that this largely accounted for orders from Apple and LG Electronics. Apple sold 10 million units iPhone6 and iPhone6 plus after three days on sale, LG's G3 mobile phone was sought after by the market. Affected, LG Display’s shipment of 5.5 inches panels reached 9.5 million in the second quarter.

It is understood that the contribution proportion of small and medium-size panels in LG Display's revenue structure also increased from the previous 25% to 35%, on a par with TV panels, monitors and notebook computers and other IT products panel, became one in three solid pillars of LG Display revenue.
